Tracking portfolio performance

Moula builds your portfolio from your transactions and updates it every day with end-of-day prices. Everything lives in the Portfolio section of the left menu.

Overview

The Overview page shows your current positions and how they're doing:

  • scorecards for your account value, cash, returns, and risk
  • charts of open value, profit, and return on cost by position
  • a table of your open positions with their value, cost, profit, and ROI

You can filter by stocks or options, calls or puts, and long or short positions, and group options with their underlying stock.

History

History shows how your portfolio evolved over time. Aggregate charts account-level metrics such as net liquidation value, open value, and profit, and compares your time-weighted return with a benchmark ETF like SPY. Holdings shows the same history position by position. Pick any date range and view it daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly.

Returns

  • Return on net deposits: how much your account has gained relative to the money you put in.
  • Time-weighted return (TWR): your performance with deposits and withdrawals stripped out, the fairest way to compare with a benchmark.
  • XIRR: your money-weighted annualized return, which accounts for when you added or withdrew money.

These returns need your deposits and withdrawals. Annualized figures appear once you have at least 90 days of history.

Transfers

Log deposits and withdrawals on the Transfers page. If you connect a broker, they sync automatically, along with dividends, interest, and fees. Without a broker connection, you can also enter your account's current value once so Moula can compute your returns.

Currency

You can view your portfolio in US dollars, euros, or British pounds; holdings in other currencies are converted automatically. Choose your display currency in Settings → Preferences.
